Assembly of First Nations

On Wednesday, December 4, 2019, Geoff Green had the opportunity to present to the Assembly of First Nations/Assemblee des premieres Nations Special Chiefs Assembly, sharing stories, lessons learned and successes over the years from Students on Ice and Canada C3.

We are proud to have Indigenous youth participation on SOI expeditions grow considerably over the years, representing more than 50% of all the youth on our most recent 2019 Arctic expedition.

“As the National Chief said so well yesterday, it is so important to invest in our young people, empower them, give them hope, and the tools to be leaders, innovators and live healthy and productive lives.”

Science Diplomacy Week at Global Affairs Canada

Science Diplomacy Week at Global Affairs Canada

This week Geoff presented at the Canadian Foreign Service Institute as part of the Global Affairs Canada staff training on the intersection between traditional knowledge & science diplomacy.

Geoff spoke about how Students on Ice provides an opportunity for students to experience our Northern & Arctic communities, its peoples & research.

It was a great opportunity to share SOI’s role in cultivating multi-disciplinary approaches to understanding the challenges and opportunities that we face as a global society.

The Students on Ice expeditions are the first step in a life-long journey for our youth participants. It isn’t enough to be inspired by these experiences but to use what we learn to make a difference when they go home.
